UW-Stout 6, Albertus Magnus 1NORTH MYRTLE BEACH SC (March 15, 2016) - UW-Stout's offense was in high gear for their two games Tuesday. The Blue Devils accumulated 31 total runs on only 18 hits. In the first game, Stout was able to draw eight walks in the first inning. This in turn gave them a huge 12 point lead going into the rest of the game. The second game proved to be closer;
Tori Workman went the distance once again. She added to her strikeout record, notching eight more in the second game.
The first game was a blowout from the first pitch. Out of the first 12 batters faced in the first inning, only one recorded an out. The Blue Devils showed patience at the plate, drawing a total of nine walks. The found the base in almost every fashion except by way of the homerun; Stout was hit-by-pitch twice, and only had only two extra base hits, which were triples by Sarah Griesbach and
Kelly Austin. The team scored a total of 25 runs, which broke a 16-year-old record. The previous record was 20 runs which was set in 2000 against Wisconsin-Lutheran.
McKayla Brunner went three innings to get her first win of the season, allowing only one hit.
Abbey Ball came on to toss the final two innings and allowed one hit.
Stout kept the hitting rolling in the second game, tallying seven hits for six scores. After Workman was hit-by-pitch in the first,
Rachel Thomas drove her home with a stand up double.
Beth Wood then reached base on a single that drove Thomas home, giving Stout a solid 2-0 lead. The top of the lineup continued their good hitting in the third, adding four more scores.
Stout will carry their offense into two more games Wednesday when they face Bay Path College and have a rematch from Day One when they take on Eureka College. Stout is off on Thursday, March 17, then wrap up the week with two games Friday and a doubleheader with SUNY-New Paltz Saturday.
