Game 1:
UW-Stout 11, Morrisville State 0 | Game 2:
Albright 5, UW-Stout 4NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (March 14, 2016) - UW-Stout secured another win, but fell in extra innings in their two games against Morrisville and Albright. The first game was all offense as Stout racked up 16 hits for 11 runs in a five inning affair. In the second game, the Blue Devils were in a stalemate until the eighth inning when Albright jumped ahead 5-4.
Tori Workman finished with seven strikeouts in the game, breaking the previous career record of 409 by one.
Stout came out of the gate early, going up 2-0 in the first inning after singles from Wood and
Heather Bol drove in
Tori Workman and
Rachel Thomas. Stout was up 5-0 going into the fifth inning, but their bats heated up even more. They turned in a six run inning in the fifth to secure the blowout. The points came from two singles by Workman and Thomas and three sacrifice hits from Bol,
Kaylee Francois and
Alyssa Germscheid.
Workman and
Kim Jablonski stole one base each, while Thomas stole two.
The second matchup turned out to be a bigger test for the Blue Devils. They grabbed an early lead as Germscheid drew a walk to bring home Wood. On the mound, Workman retired the first nine batters she faced, until the fourth inning in which she surrendered two runs. The Blue Devils fired back, scoring two in the fifth inning behind bases clearing double from Bol. Stout scored one in extra innings, but a Stout error gave Albright two scores and the 5-4 victory.
In the second game, Workman went the distance and struck out seven batters. Doing so broke the current school record for most career strikeouts; this breaks the previous 23-year-old record held by Karen Lien. Workman is now Stout's career strikeout leader, with 410 total Ks.
The Blue Devils look to bounce back in two games tomorrow, facing Albertus Magnus and South Vermont.
