UW-Stout 59, UW-Oshkosh 52OSHKOSH (February 6, 2016) - UW-Stout spoiled UW-Oshkosh's day as the Blue Devils went on to upset the No. 10 ranked Titans. Stout found a late 53-51 lead over Oshkosh after a layup by
Jenna Goldsmith that was assisted by
Kyncaide Diedrich. The Blue Devils then went on to score six of the last seven points of the game to take the win. Goldsmith led Stout with 15 points, eight rebounds and four blocks.
The Blue Devils found their three point shot and also defended it well against the Titans. Stout shot 56 percent from the three point line and stifled the Titans, holding them to only 21 percent from the arc and 35 percent from the field.
Oshkosh came out firing in the first half, opening the game on a 6-0 run. Stout fought back though, Goldsmith was fouled on a layup and made the and-one free throw to bring the game to within two points, 9-7. The first quarter ended with Stout down, 12-7.
In the second quarter, the teams traded buckets until Stout took the lead. The Blue Devils then went on a 9-2 run to go up by six points. The second half buzzer sounded with the Blue Devils in the driver's seat.
The Blue Devils jumped out in the third quarter to their largest lead of the game, a 12 point differential, after
Sarah Schoch drained a three pointer that was assisted by
Shannan Watkins. The Titans scrapped their way back in the fourth, taking a 48-46 lead around the four minute mark. After the made layup by Goldsmith, Stout won the game on free throws by
Bailey Diersen,
Kyleigh Hebert and Goldsmith. Stout had tipped the Titans 59-52.
Along with Goldsmith's efforts, Stout had contributions from Diedrich who added nine points on 4-of-6 shooting.
Anna Brown scored a career high seven points and Hebert also poured in seven points for the Blue Devils.
Oshkosh's Eliza Campbell had a double-double, 17 points and 10 boards.
This Blue Devil win snapped a seven game losing streak to the Titans, who will now falls into a first place tie with UW-River Falls in the standings.
Stout will stay on the road in their next game, facing off against Stevens Point Wednesday, Feb. 10 at 7 p.m., another nationally ranked team.
