Promising start for Blue Devils turns other direction, drop 63-51 decision

STEVENS POINT (February 10, 2016) - UW-Stout got off to a fast start over UW-Stevens Point Wednesday, but the Pointers put the brakes on the Blue Devils in the second half and Stevens Point downed Stout, 63-51, at Berg Gymnasium.

The Blue Devils (9-13, 3-8 WIAC) got a balanced scoring attack in the first half with eight players scoring and Stout, as a team, shot 55.2 percent (16-29) to take a 38-31 halftime lead.

But the tables were turned in the second half when Stout shot 26.3 percent (5-19) and finished the game shooting 43,8 percent (21-48).

Jenna Goldsmith (Jr, St. Anthony, Minn) scored 13 points to lead Stout.

The 17th ranked Pointers (17-5, 8-3) hit 38.2 percent of their shots (21-55) and were led by Allie Miceli's 16 points and 12 rebounds. Taylor Douglas added 14 points. The Pointers held a 44-29 advantage off the glass.

Stout returns to Johnson Fieldhouse to host UW-Whitewater Saturday, Feb. 13 at 3 p.m. The day is also Alumni Day with the annual alumni game scheduled for 11 a.m. Stout will also honor the 2004-05, 2005-06 and 2006-07 conference championship teams.
