Archived VideoMENOMONIE (February 17, 2016) - A final UW-Stout turnover in the final five seconds of the game, sealed the UW-River Falls win Wednesday in Johnson Fieldhouse. The Blue Devils fell to the Falcons 81-79. Stout had four players score in double figures.
John Keefe had 22,
Jalen Patterson 20,
Hank Kujak 12 and
Isaac Elliott 10.
Stout came out shooting in the first half, going on a 13-3 run in the first five minutes. Patterson hit a 3-pointer that was assisted by Keefe to give the Blue Devils a 16-8 lead. Stout kept this lead throughout the first half, not falling behind once. Keefe hit four NBA-sized 3s in a row to make the game 44-35 at halftime.
In the second half, the Falcons got hot from the 3-point line. They narrowed the deficit to one point five minutes into the half. Stout fought back; Patterson saw an opening, stole the ball, and threw down the tomahawk dunk at the other end, giving Stout a six point lead. The Blue Devils saw the lead slip late as River Falls went up 75-72 with three minutes left.
The Blue Devils fought to the very end. Keefe brought the game to one point after a clutch layup and free throw at 1:02. After a defensive stop, Stout had the ball with 30 seconds left, but lost the handle on the ball and turned it over with three seconds remaining. River Falls sunk one free throw and missed the second to go up 81-79. Stout had a last effort half-court shot by Keefe that went wide.
Along with Keefe's 22 points, he dropped eight dimes - one short of his season best - and grabbed three rebounds. Patterson, along with his 20 points, grabbed eight rebounds.
River Falls' Jon Christensen scored 19 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. Devin Buckley scored 18 points off of the bench.
The Blue Devils will play their final game of the season on Saturday, Feb. 20. They will make the trip down to UW-Platteville to face the Pioneers at 7 p.m. The Pioneers defeated the Blue Devils, 66-62, in overtime, Jan. 16 in Menomonie.
