UW-Whitewater 83, UW-Stout 70 (Box Score)
WHITEWATER (February 13, 2016) - UW-Stout shot 57 percent and outscored UW-Whitewater in the second half, but the Blue Devils could not get out of a deep hole they had dug before intermission and fell, 83-70, Saturday at Kachel Gym.
Jalen Patterson (So, Lauderdale, Minn) scored all 12 of his points after the break and Stout hit 15-of-26 shots from the floor as they worked to overcome a 44-27 halftime deficit.
The Blue Devils (4-18, 0-12 WIAC) turned the tables on the Warhawks. Stout shot 33 percent in the first half, while the Warhawks shot 47 percent. In the second half, Stout slowed down Whitewater to the tune of 33 percent shooting, while Stout heated up to 57 percent.
The Warhawks (15-8, 6-6 WIAC) held a big advantage at the free throw line throughout the entire game, but especially in the second half. Stout hit 2-of-2 from the line in the first half and finished the game hitting 11-of-19 charity shots. The Warhawks hit 6-of-9 free throws in the first half and finished the game hitting 22-of-30.
The Blue Devils had four players score in double digits, led by
John Keefe's (So, Medford) 16 points. Patterson finished with 12, and
Hank Kujak (Sr, Blair) and
Isaac Elliott (So, Stevens Point) each added 11 points.
The Warhawks got a game-high 24 points from Haki Stampley, 18 from Trinson White and 16 from Cole Van Schyndel.
The Blue Devils will close out the home portion of the schedule Wednesday, Feb. 17 when they host UW-River Falls at 7 p.m. Stout will wrap up the schedule Saturday, Feb. 20 when they travel to UW-Platteville.
