Blue Devils fall to Northland College in shootout, 94-90

ASHLAND (November 29, 2016) - UW-Stout expended so much energy making a number of comeback attempts, they could never quite get over the hump and lost at Northland College in a shootout, 94-90, at Chapple Family Gymnasium Tuesday.

The Blue Devils (2-3) led only briefly in the first quarter, falling behind 30-17 at the end of the period. The Blue Devils did cut the lead to 41-37 by halftime, came as close at two points in the third quarter, only to trail 71-62 after three quarters.

Stout got as close as one point twice in the fourth quarter, the final time 91-90 with 16 seconds remaining.

Northland (1-3) shot 51.8 percent (29-56) from the floor for the game and had five players in double figures, led by Nicole Hubert with 29 points and Bethany Best with 24 points. Mckayla Waggoner, Brianna Todey and Katherine Taylor each scored 12 points. Best pulled down nine rebounds and Hubert eight.
 
Stout had four players in double figures, led by Jenna Goldsmith with a career-best 28 points and nine rebounds. Bailey Diersen added 14 points, Shannan Watkins 13 and Kyncaide Diedrich 12. Stout shot 37.6 percent for the game (30-80). The Blue Devils held a 48-37 advantage off the glass.

Both teams feasted at the free throw line. Northland knocked down 26-of-33 charity shots, while Stout connected on 23-of-36 freebies.

Stout is off until Tuesday, Dec. 6 when they begin a three-game homestand by hosting UW-Superior at 7 p.m.
