MSOE engineers win over Blue Devils

MSOE 4, UW-Stout 3

MILWAUKEE (November 18, 2016) - UW-Stout used the power play to take an early 2-0 lead, but the Milwaukee School of Engineering came back to take a lead and go on to a 4-3 win over the Blue Devils at Kern Center Friday night.

Freshman Jack Forbort and senior Shayne McLaughlin scored power play goals for Stout, at 9:39 and 13:27, respectively in the first page to give Stout a 2-0 lead going into the first intermission.

The Raiders (2-3-2) cut the lead in half as Michael Romund scored midway through the second period, then knotted the score at 2-2 only 17 second into the third period on a goal by Jerad Tafoya. It didn't take long for the home team to take the lead when Kevin Shand scored a minute later and MSOE had a 3-2 lead.

The Blue Devils (4-3-0) again found the power play to be their friend and Riley Colvard scored his team-best fifth goal - and third power play goal - of the season, and Stout tied the scored at 5:31 in the third period.

But the night would belong to MSOE when Shand scored his second goal of the night, this coming with just over three minutes left in the game.

Stout put an extra attacker on the ice in the final minute, but could not break through.

Stout was 3-for-6 on the power play tonight, while the Raiders were held off all seven chances. Tommi Ahlgren recorded 26 saves for Stout, while Austin Campbell had 19 saves for MSOE.

Stout got two assists from Adam Kresl and single assists from Tom Schmidt, Justin Moody, Joe Anderson, and Colton Brausen. The Raiders' Romund had two assists to go with his goal.

The Blue Devils will conclude their swing through the MIlwaukee area when they play Concordia University - Wisconsin Saturday, Nov. 19 in Mequon.
