MENOMONIE (November 11, 2016) - Augsburg College scored three second period goals and went on to down UW-Stout 4-1 Friday at the Fanetti Community Center.
The Blue Devils (3-2-0) took four penalties in the second stanza and the 11th ranked Auggies (4-0-1)Â capitalized on one for a power play goal but the other three penalties kept Stout on their heels for much of the period.
It was actually Stout that capitalized on a penalty to score the first goal of the game. Following a scoreless first period,
Craig Lindegard, with assists by
Riley Colvard and
Adam Kresl scored at 2:49 of the second on a power play.
But the Auggies came back just under a minute later when Nate Flynn scored his first goal of the period. Flynn scored again, this time unassisted, at the 8:33 mark to give the Auggies a 2-1 lead. The Blue Devils were whistled for a slashing penalty with just about a minute left in the period, and Eric Brenk scored with eight seconds left in the period for a 3-1 lead.
The Auggies got their final goal of the game at 19:38 of the final period after Stout was called for a charging penalty and the Blue Devils had pulled their goalie. Trevor Stewart recorded the empty netter.
Tommi Ahlgren took his first loss of the season, recording 29 saves. Jordyn Kaufer notched the win, stopping 19 shots.
The Blue Devils begin a nearly one month stretch away from the Fanetti Community Center when they travel to St. Olaf College, Saturday, Nov. 12 for a 7:30 p.m. game.
