MENOMONIE (October 10, 2016) - When UW-Stout and UW-Superior last met at the Northland College Invitational in early September, the Blue Devils handily defeated the Yellowjackets in three sets. It was a different story as the Yellowjackets stung the Blue Devils with a 20-25, 25-17, 25-19, 21-25, 16-14 win in Johnson Fieldhouse Monday.
The match proved to be entertaining for the 115 or so fans in attendance, as both teams attacked hard throughout the evening in a number of fairly close sets that featured several long rallies between the two former conference foes.
The Yellowjackets' Alexis Landherr and the Blue Devils'
Ashley Pratt each recorded 16 kills in the contest.Â
Kennedy Strain had 15 kills for the Blue Devils and
Olivia Jung added 10. For the Yellowjackets (7-16), Leah Nightengale finished with 14 kills and Brylee Colligan had 12 kills.
Anna Panning had 33 digs for Stout (10-10), while
Carli Langeland contributed 28. The Yellowjackets' Mackenzie Dahlin had 25 digs. Kaila Meyer added 24 and Emily VerWay had 21. VerWay finished with 41 assists. Stout's
Jessica DuVal finsihed with 45 assists.
The match was the second consecutive 3-2 match Stout played, but the Blue Devils knocked off UW-Platteville, 3-2, Saturday in Platteville.
The last time Superior defeated Stout was Oct. 2, 2013, by an identical 3-2 margin. But the last time Superior defeated Stout in Johnson Fieldhouse was Oct. 8, 2008 by a 3-0 margin.
Stout will be at the St. Catherine Invitational Saturday, Oct. 15 to face Macalester College and host St. Catherine.
