MENOMONIE (January 9, 2016) - UW-Stout held a three point halftime lead, but UW-River Falls used a 9-0 run midway through the third period to turn the advantage and the Falcons went on to an 86-76 conference win over the Blue Devils Saturday at Johnson Fieldhouse.

Stout (6-7, 0-2 WIAC) built up a 39-36 halftime lead, overcoming a five point first period deficit. The Blue Devils kept the Falcons (11-2, 2-0 WIAC) scoreless for the first three minutes of the second period and ran up to as much as a 31-25 lead at the 5:57 mark.

The Falcons came out soaring from the halftime locker room, taking a 41-40 lead on a jumper by Taylor Karge and a 3-pointer by Brynn Liljander. Stout would break a four-point, 48-44, disadvantage to one point when Jenna Goldsmith (Jr, St. Anthony, Minn) completed the old-fashion three point play, with a hoop-and-the-harm and the Blue Devils trailed 48-47.

The Falcons went on a 9-0 run over the next two minutes and the Blue Devils would get no closer than eight points the rest of the way.

River Falls finished the game with four players in double figures, led by Karge's 23 points. Kate Theisen scored a double-double, putting in 13 points and adding 13 rebounds. Brynn Liljander added 16 points and Mikaela Wilson came off the bench to score 10.

Goldsmith led all scorers with 25 points, hitting 10-of-16, including 2-of-3 treys and all three free throws. Goldsmith scored 14 points in the second half. Bailey Diersen (Fr, Greenville) came off the bench to score 10 points.

The Falcons outrebounded the Blue Devils, 46-38. River Falls shot 44.4 percent (32-72) from the floor, while Stout shot 41.5 percent (27-65).

The Blue Devils will host UW-Eau Claire, Wednesday, Jan. 13 at 7 p.m., then will be at UW-Platteville, Saturday, Jan. 16.
