UW-Stout 5, Gustavus Adolphus 3ST. PETER, Minn (January 9, 2016) - Freshman
Joe Anderson (Fr, Side Lake, Minn) scored his first collegiate hat trick and helped UW-Stout power their way past Gustavus Adolphus, 5-3, Saturday.
Anderson put the Blue Devils (7-4-3) on the board first, picking up his first goal of the night four minutes into the first period, scoring on the power play. Anderson's second goal of the night tied the score at 3-3, when he scored unassisted two minutes into the third period. Anderson completed the trick, picking up the empty net goal with less than a minute remaining.
The team's traded the first four goals of the game. Anderson scored first, but the Gusties' Van Sullivan knotted the score in the 14th minute of the first period. The Blue Devils'
Justin Moody (Jr, Grand Forks, ND) put Stout ahead in the first two minutes of the second period, getting an assist from Anderson. Evan Erickson tied the score for Gustavus, in the 12th minute. Gustavus (3-8-2) shot ahead in the 19th minute on a goal by Drew Aspinwell.
Stout scored three goals in the third period.
Craig Lindegard (Jr, Hallock, Minn) scored for the Blue Devils, sandwiching his goal between Anderson's two.
Anderson's hat trick was the Blue Devils' second hat trick of the season. The Blue Devils outshot the Gusties 33-22. Stout's
Spencer Viele (Jr, Wildwood, Mo) recorded 19 saves. The Gusties' Chris Amsden had 27 saves and Isaak Tjaden had one save.
The last time Stout and Gustavus met, the teams played to a scoreless tie.
Stout will be at St. Thomas, Friday, Jan. 15, then will be at St. Mary's University, Saturday, Jan. 16.
