Archived VideoMENOMONIE (January 8, 2016) - UW-Stout scored three goals in the second period to take a 3-1 lead, but Hamline University scored three of their own in the third period and the two teams tied, 4-4, Friday at the Fanetti Community Center.
After a scoreless first period, the Blue Devils (6-4-3) answered Hamline's Mitch McPherson's early second period goal with a barrage of goals.
Joe Anderson (Fr, Side Lake, Minn) scored at the 2:02 mark of the second, with assists by
Justin Moody (Jr, Grand Forks, ND) and
Joe Kleven (Fr, Shakopee, Minn). Stout scored twice in the final five minutes of the period, with
Jake Useldinger (Sr, East Grand Forks, Minn) scoring at the 15:46 mark and Moody scoring at 17:29 as Stout held a 3-1 lead.
The Pipers(4-7-4) tied the score in the third period. Charlie Adams scored at 4:35 and Kevin score a power play goal at 9:13. Stout took the lead back with seven minutes remaining when
Danny Ray (Sr, Grand Forks, ND) took advantage on the power play to give Stout a 4-3 lead.
Hamline's Kerry McGlynn scored with just over four minutes left to send the game into overtime.
Stout held the Piper back on a long extra attacker on the ice in overtime and finished the game one man short due to the penalty.
The Pipers held a 48-36 advantage in shots as the Blue Devils'
Nick Schmit made 44 saves. The Pipers' Joh Sellie-Hanson recorded 32 saves.
Stout takes to the road for the first time since mid-November when they travel to Gustavus Adolphus, Saturday, Jan. 9 for a 7 p.m. contest.
