Blugolds take second game over Blue Devils

UW-Eau Claire 80, UW-Stout 63 | TV 13 Highlights | TV 18 Highlights

EAU CLAIRE (January 30, 2016) - UW-Eau Claire opened the game with a 14-4 run and pretty much looked at UW-Stout in the rear view mirror the rest of the way as the Blugolds captured an 80-63 win at Zorn Arena Saturday.

Eau Claire (9-10, 4-4 WIAC) took a 17-9 lead after the first quarter and a 34-25 lead into halftime as Stout made a move in the second quarter.

Kyleigh Hebert scored five points in a two minute time span to help the Blue Devils (8-11, 2-6 WIAC) cut into the lead. Two free throws by Nicole Schaub cut the lead to nine points just before halftime, the closest the game would be the rest of the way.

The Blue Devils did not have an answer for Erin O'Toole, who scored 30 points for the Blugolds. In an Eau Claire win two weeks ago, O'Toole dropped in 35 points. Madison Johnson played a big part in the Blugolds' control of the boards, pulling down 17 rebounds to go along with 15 points. Teenie Lichtfuss added 17 points.

Hebert finished the night with a season-high 20 points. She was 10-of-13 from the free throw line and scored 10 points in each half. Jenna Goldsmith added 11 points and Kyncaide Diedrich came off the bench to score 10 points and pulled down a team-best eight rebounds.

The Blue Devils did show some offensive firepower in the fourth quarter, knocking down 35 points, the most points they have scored in the fourth quarter this season. Both teams also took advantage of the free throw line. Stout connected on 22-of-30 charity shots, while the Blugolds put in 26-of-34.

The Blugolds held a big edge off the glass, yanking down 54 caroms, compared to 34 for Stout.

Stout will host UW-La Crosse, Wednesday, Feb. 3 at 7 p.m., then will be at UW-Oshkosh, Saturday, Feb. 6.
