Pointers shoot more than 60 percent in first half, down Stout, 68-51

STEVENS POINT (January 27, 2016) - UW-Stevens Point shot a blistering 61 percent in the first half, racing out to an 18 point halftime lead and went on to hand UW-Stout a 68-51 loss Wednesday at Bennett Court.

The Pointers (10-8, 3-4 WIAC) got 10 points from Zack Goedeke in the first half as Goedezke led the charge by hitting 5-of-6 from the floor. Goedezke finished with 11 points as four Stevens Point player finished in double digits.

The Blue Devils (4-13, 0-7 WIAC) outscored the Pointers, 29-28, in the second half, but only got as close as 13 points with about two minutes left to play.

John Lahti (So, Turtle Lake) scored 10 points to lead Stout. The Blue Devils held a 32-26 advantage in rebounds, with Jalen Patterson (So, Lauderdale, Minn) pulling down a game-high seven boards.

The Pointers got a game-high 14 points from Stephen Pelkofer, 13 points off the bench from Brad Freeborn and 12 points from Ethan Bublitz.

Stout returns to Johnson Fieldhouse, Saturday, Jan. 30 to host UW-Eau Claire at 3 p.m., beginning the second round of WIAC play. The annual alumni game is at 11 a.m. The Blue Devils will honor their 1965-66 WSUC championship team at halftime.
