UW-Stout 71, UW-La Crosse 68 (Box Score)LA CROSSE (January 20, 2016) -
Kyleigh Hebert (Sr, Spencer) hit a 3-pointer with 29 seconds left in the game and the UW-Stout defense denied UW-La Crosse in the final seconds as the Blue Devils snared their second straight conference win with a 71-68 victory at Mitchell Hall Wednesday.
The teams traded leads throughout the night. Stout (8-8, 2-3 WIAC) led through much of the first quarter, but La Crosse (6-10, 0-5 WIAC) carried the lead throughout much of the second quarter and had a 35-34 halftime lead.
A 3-pointer by
Nicole Schaub (Jr, Minneapolis, Minn) three minutes into the third quarter gave Stout what would prove to be a short-lived lead. Moments later, the Eagles had a six point lead, before Stout's
Jenna Goldsmith (Jr, St. Anthony, Minn),
Sarah Schoch (Jr, Chippewa Falls) and Hebert recorded buckets to tied the contest at 47-all with 3:41 remaining in the period. The Blue Devils slowly built the lead to 10 points, 60-50, at 8:22 in the fourth quarter. The Eagles went on an 8-0 run to pull to within 60-58.
The Eagles would take as much as a three point lead, 68-65, on a bucket by MaKenzie Miller with 2:06 remaining. Stout would score the final six points of the contest.
Shannan Watkins hit the front end of a two free throws and
Bailey Diersen tied the game at 68-68 with her jumper at 1:14. The Eagles missed a shot with less than a minute left, setting Hebert's winning 3-pointer.
Hebert finished with 14 points, followed by 13 for Schoch and 12 for Goldsmith. Stout recorded 14 steals, with Hebert getting three, as the Blue Devils forced 29 La Crosse turnovers.
Elise DeNoyer matched Hebert's 14 points for the Eagles. Miller finished with 12, Jenna Anderson 11 and Maggie Bishop and Rachel Atchison 10. The Eagles outrebounded Stout, 45-38.
Stout returns to Johnson Fieldhouse Saturday, Jan. 23 to host UW-Oshkosh at 3 p.m. Stout will host UW-Stevens Point, Wednesday, Jan. 27 at 7 p.m.
