Archived VideoMENONOMIE (January 20,2016) - Stout gave La Crosse all it could handle in the first two periods, but La Crosse managed to come from behind late and force overtime and eventually beat the Blue Devils 63-57.
Cory Speer led Stout with nine points.
The Blue Devils (4-11, 0-5 WIAC) came out of the gate a little sluggish in the first half going down 7-0 four minutes into the first period, but managed to fight back and tie the game at 13 on a layup from
Jacob Nordstrom. They then fired back at the Eagles (10-6, 4-1 WIAC) going up by three after
John Keefe set up
John Lahti for an easy layup. The first half ended on a
Sam Ortman three that put the Blue Devils up one, 26-25.
The second half proved to be an even bigger test for the Blue Devils. They opened the period firing, going up by eight after Ortman layed in a bucket off of the pass from
Hank Kujak. Stout ended up leading the rest of the game after the seven minute mark, but La Crosse's Jared Staege tied the game at 52 with 15 seconds remaining.
The overtime period was a difficult one for Stout, who did not lead the entire period. La Crosse won the game 63-57 after making three straight free throws.
No Blue Devil scored in double digits, but 10 players found themselves on the score card. The Blue Devils also out rebounded La Crosse 42 to 36.
The Eagles' Austin Fritz led all scorers with 20 point.
The Blue Devils will find themselves on the road in their next game, going up against Oshkosh Saturday January 23 for a 3 p.m. game.
