Blue Devils split on first day of season, drop Dubuque, lose to Lawrence

MENOMONIE (September 5, 2015) - UW-Stout opened the 2015 tennis team by splitting action at their own triangular Saturday, opening the day with a 7-2 win over the University of Dubuque, but falling 6-3 in the final match of the day to Lawrence University.

Jenna Welke (So, Chippewa Falls) won both of her singles matches at No. 5, blanking Dubuque's Taylor Fortman, 6-0, 6-0. Welke downed Lawrence's Annie Hannicar, 6-4, 6-0.

Freshman Linsey Thisius had a nice collegiate debut, teaming with Anna Lano to win both No. 2 doubles matches, defeating Dubuque and Lawrence, by identical 8-4 scores. Thisius won her first collegiate singles match, downing Marissa Joers of Dubuque, 7-5, 6-3.

Emma Pedersen (Jr, Eau Claire) split at No. 2 singles, defeating Dubuque's Naomi Bokela, 6-3, 6-1, but falling to Lawrence's Lilly Endsley, 6-0, 6-1. Kelsey Pedersen (Sr, Lake Elmo, Minn) split, winning her No. 4 singles match over Dubuque's Mariah Scott, 6-1, 6-1, but dropping a No. 3 match,  6-0, 6-2, to Lawrence's Lindsay Holsen.

Brianna Buhl won, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 6 singles against Dubuque's Megan Ranney. Jolene Ladewig defeated Lawrence's Katie Nottberg at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 7-5. 

Elizabeth Smith and Katie Kreibich teamed for an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles against Dubuque.
