Photo GalleryMENOMONIE (April 2, 2015) - After getting blanked in a shortened first game, UW-Stout had their chances in the second game, but twice left the bases loaded and were swept by 13th ranked UW-Whitewater, 11-0, 8-3, Thursday at Alumni Field in Stout's home opener and both team's conference opener.
Playing scoreless for the first three innings, an infield error with two outs in the opening game eventually led to a four-run fourth inning by the Warhawks. Whitewater added seven runs in the fifth inning and the game ended after five innings. Stout's
Tori Workman recroded seven strikeouts before getting chased in the fifth inning.
In the second game, Whitewater (13-3, 2-0 WIAC) got a pair of runs in the first inning and added a third run in the second inning.
Stout (8-14, 0-2 WIAC) finally got on the board in the third inning.
Karley Wiensch reached on an error, then moved to when
Beth Wood made it to first when the third strike was dropped. A throwing error by the catcher put the ball into right field, allowing Wiensch to score, making it 3-1.
Whitewater scored in the fifth, but Stout got that run back in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI by catcher
Rachel Thomas, but Stout left the bases loaded to end the inning, then did the same thing in the sixth inning.
With the wind blowing out, the Warhawks started to drive the ball, hitting two run home runs in both the sixth and seventh innings.
The Blue Devils are off until Wednesday, April 8 when they are scheduled to host UW-Eau Claire at 4 p.m.
