UW-La Crosse 12, UW-Stout 4LA CROSSE (April 19, 2015) - UW-La Crosse broke open a close game with eight runs in the eighth inning of the opener for an eight-inning, 11-1, then pounded out 19 hits in the second game for a 12-4 win to earn the sweep over UW-Stout Sunday at Copeland Park.
Stout (14-13, 2-10 WIAC) trailed 3-1 in the eighth inning, getting their only run of the game in the eighth when
Hunter Dicus (So, Elk Mound), who went 2-for-4 in both games, doubled in
Nick Nalbach (Sr, Plover), who had reached on an error.
The Eagles (18-8, 11-5 WIAC) scored their eight runs in the inning on five hits
In the second game, Stout scored single runs in the second, fourth, fifth and sixth innings. But the Eagles got the bulk of their runs in a four-run fourth inning when Travor Kohlwey hit a three-run home run and also scored two runs in each of the sixth, seventh and eighth innings.La Crosse added single runs in the third and fifth innings.
Stout did hit the ball in both games, collecting eight runs in the first game and nine runs in the second. The Eagles has 11 hits in the first and 19 in the second, the most allowed by Stout this season.
In game two,
Jack Schneider (Sr, Minneapolis, Minn),
Charlie Meyer (Sr, Janesville) and
Sam Arnott (Sr, Tomahawk), making his first start of the season, each had two hits, joining Dicus. Nalbach saw his hitting streak come to an end at 16 games.
Stout will be at UW-Superior, Tuesday, April 21, then will host UW-Oshkosh, Saturday, April 25 and Sunday, April 26.
