UW-La Crosse 11, UW-Stout 10LA CROSSE (April 18, 2015) - After recording a 4-3 win over UW-La Crosse in the first game of a conference doubleheader, the UW-Stout baseball team had a two run lead in the ninth inning, but had to settle for the day's split when the Eagles came back for an 11-10 win Saturday at Copeland Park.
Leading 10-8 after
Chris Biederman drove in a run in the top of the ninth for Stout (14-11, 2-8), the Eagles (16-8,9-5 WIAC) pounded out four hits and three runs off Blue Devil ace fireman
Austin Booher to take the win. The decision handed Booher, who was going for his fifth save of the season, his first loss of the season. Booher had picked up his fourth save of the year in the first game.
Joel Zyhowski hit a two-run single to tie the game, then came home on Carter Hoffman's walkoff single.
The game ground through eight pitchers, four for each team, as Stout collected 15 hits and La Crosse pounded out 17 hits.
Stout opened the game with a two-run first inning, but the Eagles scored three runs in the first inning, then added to the lead with single runs in the second and third innings.
The Blue Devils took the lead back with a five-run fourth inning. Austin Littman,
Jack Schneider and
Charlie Meyer each drove in a run and
Nick Nalbach drove in two runs with a double to give Stout a 7-5 lead. The Eagles tied the score with two runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Each team scored single runs in the sixth. Stout took the lead with a run in the seventh on
Noah Brown's sacrfice fly. The Blue Devils went up 10-8 on Biederman's RBI single.
In the opener, Stout scored three runs in the fifth inning when
Charlie Meyer hit a home run to bring home
Chris Biederman, who led off the inning with a double.
Brady Burzynski, who would go 4-for-4 in the game, hit a solo home run to give Stout a 3-0 lead.
The Eagles scored two runs in the bottom of the inning, getting both runs on a throwing error.
Both teams added a single run in the eighth inning. Nalbach drove in Burzynski, who led off the inning with a double, then moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by
Jack Schneider. Justin Anderson hit an RBI single to score the Eagles' final run of the game.
Booher came in after the Eagles' final run in the eighth with no outs and the bases loaded. Booher recorded a strikeout and two fly balls to center field. In the final inning, Booher recorded his fourth save of the season when he recorded three groundouts.
Ryan Connor and Meyer each had two hits for Stout. Alex Cordova and Taylor Kohlwey had two hits for the Eagles.
Zach Carlson picked up the win, scattering eight hits and three runs, but only one earned, working seven innings. Carlson struck out four, the same as his counterpart Joe Miller.
The two teams are scheduled to play again Sunday, April 19 with the start time moved to 11 a.m.
