Blue Devils sweep Pioneers in two close games

UW-Stout 9, UW-Platteville 4 | UW-Stout 6, UW-Platteville 4

PLATTEVILLE (April 12, 2015) - Stout swept UW-Platteville in two tight games against the Pioneers. The first game ended 9-7 and the second 6-4. Stout scored eight total runs the seventh inning of both games to take the win. The runs were bolstered by Sarah Griesbach (Jr, Stratford) who had five RBIs on the day.

In the secondgame, Karley Wiensch (Jr, Chippewa Falls) scored the first run for Stout on a sacrifice by Griesbach. Stout then added to the lead in the fourth inning on two runs from Beth Wood (Fr, Mineral Point) and Liz Seipel (So, Eau Claire). In the seventh Tori Workman (Jr, Prior Lake, Minn.) and Griesbach both singled, stole a base, and scored for the Blue Devils to put away a fierce seventh inning run by the Pioneers. Wood also pitched six innings for the Blue Devils and took the win.

The Pioneers fought even more in the firstgame, but the Blue Devils were once again able to down their seventh inning attack. Stout went up 3-1 in the third inning on three unanswered runs drove in by Wiensch, Tori Workman and Taylor Workman (Sr, Prior Lake, Minn.). At a 5-5 draw in the seventh inning Griesbach took the lead by hitting a three RBI home run. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Stout's defense held up, winning the game 9-7. Tori Workman snagged the win for Stout.

Lisa Kaura drove in three runs for the Pioneers.

This coming weekend Stout will play a total of four games. Saturday April 18 the Blue Devils will play UW-Stevens point in a double-header, and Sunday April 19 they will play the Titans of UW-Oshkosh in a second double-header.
