Macalester 14, UW-Stout 4ST. PAUL, MINN. (April 12, 2015) - Stout pulled out the win in the first game of two seven inning games against Macalester College Sunday, but found themselves down early in the second game to split the double header and come out with one win.
Charlie Meyer (Sr, Janesville) tallied three hits on the day, including one home run for the Blue Devils.
In the first game of two, Stout jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on a single to right by
Jake Lunow (Sr, Princeton) that brought in
Nick Naulbach (Sr, Plover). Meyer then homered to center field to add another run, and soon after
Brady Burzynski (Jr, Eau Claire) was brought home on a throwing error by the Scots. In the fifth inning Meyer produced his third hit of the day, a double, that brought home
Noah Brown (So, Forest Lake, Minn.) from third. The Scots fought back in the seventh inning scoring two runs, but the Blue Devils closed the game out on a fly out to right field.
Zach Carlson (Indian Head Park, Ill.) grabbed the win for the Blue Devils.
The second game was much different than the first. Stout committed four errors in the second game, and managed to produce only five hits. The Scots however, scored all 14 of their runs by the fourth inning and the Blue Devils were unable to close the gap by the seventh inning. Stout used five pitchers in the second game;
Nick Garlick (So, Wheaton, Ill.) took the loss for the Blue Devils.
Tom Forester produced six hits for the Scots in both games.
Stout will play at home this Wednesday April 15 against the UW-Platteville Pioneers in a double-header.
