Coe College 8, UW-Stout 0 (5 inn) |
UW-Stout 1, Augustana College 0ROCK ISLAND, Ill (March 29, 2015) - After getting blanked in five innings by unranked Coe College, UW-Stout turned around to beat 16th ranked Augustana College, 1-0, in the final game of the Augustana College Tournament Sunday.
The Blue Devils (8-12) mustered five hits, but committed three errors in an 8-0 loss to Coe College (14-6) in the first game of the day, allowing four runs in the bottom of the fourth and two runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game.
It was a different feel for the Blue Devils against the host school Augustana (14-4-1) as
Tori Workman (Jr, Prior Lake, Minn) struck out six and stranded four Viking runners, including two in the top of the seventh to notch the win.
The only scoring in the game came in the fourth inning.
Taylor Workman (Sr, Prior Lake, Minn) and
Nicole Rogers (Jr, Brooklyn Center, Minn) hit back-to-back singles and
Lynzi Knudtson (Sr, Melrose) drew a walk to load the bases. Designated player
Beth Wood (Fr, Mineral Point) took a 1-0 pitch and sliced the ball to left field, scoring
Rachel Thomas (Fr, Hastings, Minn), who was the pinch runner for
Taylor Workman.
Tori Workman allowed a hit in the sixth inning, then gave up back-to-back, two-out singles in the seventh inning before getting a fly ball to center field to end the game. Workman scattered five hits and gave up no walks, while the Blue Devils punched out six hits by six different players.
In the opener, Stout allowed 12 hits, six each by
Tori Workman and Wood. Stout recorded five hits, with Rogers going 2-for-2. Stout had an opportunity to score in the third inning, but a suicide squeeze bunt failed when the lead runner was thrown out at the plate.
Stout returns to action Thursday, April 2 for their home opener when they host 14th-ranked and conference favorite UW-Whitewater at 3 p.m. at Alumni Field.
