Plattsburgh State 5, UW-Stout 1CLERMONT, Fla. (March 20, 2015) - UW-Stout got enough hits, but could not bring the runners home and dropped their final two games on their annual spring break trip, falling to Keene State, 6-2, and Plattsburgh State, 5-1.
Keene State (3-6) outhit Stout by only one hit, 8-7, and each team stranded six runners. The Owls managed to draw four walks to up their on-base percentage. Keene scored two runs in the third, fourth and sixth innings to take a 6-0 lead.
The Blue Devils (6-10) got their only runs in the game when
Tori Workman (Jr, Prior Lake, Minn) tripled to drive in two runs in the top of the seventh. Workman finished the game going 2-for-4 and
Rachel Thomas (Fr, Hastings, Minn) was 2-for-3 for the Blue Devils.
It was more of the same against Plattsburgh State as both teams sliced out six hits apiece, but Stout stranded eight runners to the Cardinals' five.
Plattsburgh took a 4-0 lead, scoring a single run in the second, two in the third and one in the fourth for a 4-0 lead before Stout got on the board in the bottom of the fourth.
Karley Wiensch (Jr, Chippewa Falls) brought home
Shelby Weiske (Fr, Woodville) from third on a sacrifice bunt. The Cardinals added another run in the seventh.
Stout is off until they travel to the Augustana College Tournament in Rock Island, Ill, March 28-29. The Blue Devils will play Wartburg College, Coe College and Augustana.
