Blue Devil softball falls to two nationally ranked teams

William Paterson University 3, UW-Stout 0 | North Central College 5, UW-Stout 4

CLERMONT, Fla. (March 19, 2015) - UW-Stout was tripped up by two nationally ranked teams Thursday during the National Training Center College Spring Games, falling to 20th ranked William Paterson, 3-0, and 5-4, to 17th ranked North Central College.

Blue Devil pitchers allowed only five hits and two earned runs, but Stout (6-8) committed three errors throughout the game, including errors that led to single runs in the first and seventh innings. William Paterson (7-2) scored a single earned run in the third.

Offensively, the Blue Devils could only rap out two base hits, placed five runners on base and stranded two runners.

In the North Central game, the Cardinals (2-0) scored a single run in the first inning, but Stout tied the score in the next inning when Beth Wood drove in a run. The Blue Devils took a 4-1 lead with a three-run fourth inning, only to see the Cardinals take the lead back with a bases-loaded, inside-the-park home run in the bottom of the fifth inning.

The Blue Devils will conclude their spring break schedule Friday, March 20, when they take on Keene State and Plattsburgh State.
