CLERMONT FLA. (March 17, 2015) - UW-Stout fell to top-ranked Tufts University in a shutout and lost a close game to Allegheny College Tuesday to bring their spring break record to an even three wins and three losses.
Coming off a tough, bottom of fhe seventh inning loss to 13th ranked St. Thomas, the Blue Devils could manage to string their offense together as the Jumbos kept Stout off the scoreboard. Stout simply couldn't get past a good defensive effort by Tufts; the Blue Devils managed to get six hits in the game, but were unable to get all the way around to home plate. Tufts piled on the runs to make it a 10-0 score by fifth inning, ending the game.
In the second game the Blue Devils put up a fight until the very end. Stout scored in the top of the first inning on a throwing error by Allegheny and then again in the third on a single by
Lyndzi Knudtson (Sr, Melrose), a sac fly by
Sara Griesbach (Jr, Stratford) and an RBI single by
Taylor Workman (Sr, Prior Lake, Minn.), making it a 2-0 game. The Gators countered this attack in the fourth and fifth innings going ahead 4-2. They then added to their lead in the sixth inning on a fielder's choice, making it a 5-2 game. Stout never stopped fighting and rallied in the seventh inning on another single by Knedtson and a double by Griesbach. Allegheny sealed the game on a throw to first. The final score was 5-4.
The road doesn't get much easier for the Blue Devils. Stout have Wednesday off, but then take on No. 22 William Paterson University and No. 20 North Central College on Thursday March 19.
