UW-Stout 13, Greenville College 7 | St. Thomas 4, UW-Stout 3
CLEARMONT, FLA. (March 16, 2015) - UW-Stout handled Greenville College in the first game of the day, but lost late in the second game on a three run seventh inning rally to the No. 13 ranked University of St. Thomas.
An offensive explosion of five straight singles in the second inning by the Blue Devils helped them to an early 5-2 lead over the Panthers. Stout (6-4) soon scored again in the third inning on two throwing errors by Greenville and a stolen base by
Karely Wiensch (Jr, Chippewa Falls) to make it a 7-6 ball game. The Panthers added one run in the fourth to tie the game up. In the seventh inning, the Blue Devils scored on three singles and back-to-back homers by
Sara Giesbach (Jr, Stratford) and
Taylor Workman (Sr, Prior Lake, Minn.), winning the game for Stout.
The second game was a heartbreaker for Stout.
Tori Workman (Jr, Prior Lake, Minn.) drove in two runs in the third inning on a double to left field and soon scored on a throwing error by the Tommies, giving Stout a 3-0 lead. Stout held the No. 13 ranked Tommies scoreless until a walk off in the final inning led St. Thomas to a 4-3 victory.
Tori Workman threw nine strikeouts in the loss.
Stout will look to bounce back tomorrow as they face off against Tufts University at 1 p.m. (ET) and then do battle with the Allegheny College Gators at 5 p.m. (ET).
