Great hitting and defense helps Stout sweep Edgewood in double header

UW-Stout 6, Edgewood 1 | UW-Stout 8, Edgewood 2

FORT MYERS, FLA. (March 16, 2015) - Nine hits in each game helped propel the Blue Devils past Edgewood College Monday in the first two games of their spring break trip to Fort Myers Fla. Third baseman Jake Lunow (Sr, Princeton) led Stout with four hits in total.

In the first game, Stout (5-1) exploded in the third inning scoring three runs off of a Nick Nalbach (Sr, Plover) homerun, a Brady Burzynski (Jr, Eau Claire) RBI, and a Jake Lunow (Sr, Princeton) sac fly to center. From there, the Blue Devils slowly added to their lead in the fourth and fifth innings to make it a score of 6-1 by the end. Zach Carlson (So, Indian Head Park, Ill.) got the win for the Blue Devils, throwing five strikeouts on the day.

In the second game, the Blue Devils put up even more runs to hammer the Eagles. Edgewood scored in the first inning behind a wild pitch, but Stout soon fought their way back, and played terrific defense. They scored four runs in the second inning off of two stolen bases and three hits. Stout scored their next four runs in the fifth and sixth innings, first from two doubles by Lunow and Charlie Meyer (Sr, Jainsville), and then in the sixth from a Edgewood fielding error and a single by Burzynski. Hayden Bow (So, Eau Claire) recorded his first win on the year for the Blue Devils.

Tomorrow Stout will face the Minnesota Twins Golf Coast League Rookie Team at 1 p.m. (ET)
