Nick Nalbach (Sr, Plover) was 4-for-5 with three runs batted in to lead a UW-Stout assault on Knox College as the Blue Devils swept over the Prairie Fire, 11-2, Wednesday.
A day after getting blanked, 13-0, in an exhibition game with the Minnesota Twins rookie team, the Blue Devils rediscovered their bats. Each starter had at least one hit as Stout slashed out 18 hits.
Stout took control with a four run fourth inning, then added two runs in the fifth, three in the sixth and capped the game off with two runs in the ninth inning on a two-run double by Nalbach. The Prairie Fire got their two runs in the seventh inning to pull to within 9-2.
Jack Schneider (Sr, Minneapolis, Minn) was 3-for-5 with an RBI.
Josh Halling (Jr, River Falls) was 3-for-4 with an RBI and
Charlie Meyer (Sr, Janesville) was 2-for-5 with an RBI.
Three Stout pitchers held Knox to seven hits, each pitching three innings.
Kellen Pearson (Jr, Hudson) picked up the win, fanning two and allowing two hits.
Stout will face Salem State, Thursday, March 19 at 9 a.m. (ET).
