CLEARMONT, FLA. (March 15, 2015) - Stout won their first two games of their spring break road trip to Clermont Fla. Sunday. Good hitting and opponent throwing errors provided enough for a six inning blowout of Framingham State in the first game, and continued late to give Stout a narrow 5-4 victory over Endicott College.
In the first game, Stout (6-3) totaled eight runs on nine hits behind two hit performances from
Lynzi Knudtson (Sr, Melrose) and
Sara Griesbach (Jr, Stratford). The Blue Devils took an early 1-0 lead in the third and then went on to score five runs in the fifth off of two RBIs and a run from
Taylor Workman (Sr, Prior Lake, Minn.) and a critical throwing error by Framingham. The Blue Devils added more to the lead in the sixth to eventually end the game.
Tori Workman (Jr, Prior Lake, Minn.) and
Beth Wood (Fr, Mineral Point) combined for eight strikeouts and six scoreless innings to pitch the Blue Devil's second shutout of the season.
The win over Framingham gave Blue Devil coach
Chris Stainer her 300th career win.
The second game was much closer. The Blue scored the first two runs in the top second and fourth innings. Endicott charged back in the bottom of the sixth inning scoring three runs to go up 4-2 on a throwing error. Soon after, Framingham committed two critical errors, allowing Stout to go up 5-4. The game was sealed on a strikeout thrown by
Tori Workman.
The Blue Devils will play two games tomorrow Monday March 16; first against St. Thomas (Minn.) and then against Greenville College.
