UW-Stout 10, St. Olaf 0 (5 inn)ROSEMOUNT, Minn (February 27, 2015) - Three UW-Stout pitchers allowed only one run over two games as the Blue Devils swept St. Olaf College, 3-1, 10-0, Friday at the Irish Sports Dome at Rosemount High School.
Tori Workman (Jr, Prior Lake, Minn) struck out 10, allowed three walks and scattered six hits in six innings of work and also scored two runs on two hits in the 3-1 opener.
Abbey Ball (Fr,Austin, Minn) came on in relief to face four batters to earn her first Blue Devil (3-3) save in the top of the seventh.
Workman led off the first inning with a single, then was moved to second on
Lynzi Knudtson 's (Sr, Melrose) sacrifice.
Sara Griesbach 's (So, Stratford) single moved Workman to third and Workman scored when Griesbach got hung up between second and third.
Workman got things started again in the third inning, delivering a two-out single, eventually working her way home on a wild pitch and an infield error. Knudtson scored Stout's final run in the fifth, reaching on a two-out single, then stealing second before taking advantage of St. Olaf (0-2) miscues to get home. The Oles got their only run of the day in the sixth inning.
Ball earned the start and the win in game two, pitching three innings with two strikeouts, one walk and two hits. Ball left with a 7-0 lead and
Beth Wood (Fr, Mineral Point) came on to finish, scattering one hit over two innings as Stout added three runs in the top of the fifth for a 10-0 lead. Ball and Wood allowed only three combined hits in the contest.
Tori Workman led off the game with a solo home run and, as Ball was limiting the Oles offense, Stout got their offense in full throttle in a six-run fourth inning. Griesbach reached on a lead-off double, then came home on
Taylor Workman 's (Sr, Prior Lake, Minn) home run. Stout loaded the bases and
Tori Workman delivered a three-run double, then came home on a passed ball.
Griesbach led off the fifth with a double and came home on
Taylor Workman's single. Stout used good base running and St. Olaf mistakes to score two more runs in the inning. Wood allowed a lead off single in the bottom of the fifth, then forced three straight groundouts to end the game.
Griesbach finished the second game going 3-for-3 with three doubles and two runs scored.
Tori Workman was 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored with a double and a home run.
The Blue Devils are off until they take their annual spring break trip to the Orlando, Fla., area where they are scheduled to play 10 games.
