St. Benedict 12, UW-Stout 1 (5 innings)ST. CLOUD, Minn. (February 14, 2015) - UW-Stout ventured out in the cold weather on Valentine's Day and all they got for their troubles were a pair of losses to the College of St. Benedict, 5-3, 12-1 in five innings, Saturday at the Husky Dome.
In the opener,
Tori Workman (Jr, Prior Lake, Minn) picked up where she left off last season, striking out 11 - one short of the school record -Â but got put in hole early by the Blazers. St. Benedict tagged for all five runs in the first three innings of the game, including a three-run third where Workman surrendered two home runs, a solo shot and a two-run dinger.
Stout fought back with a three run fifth inning when Workman tripled in three runs. With two outs,
Shelby Weiske (Fr, Woodville) and
Taylor Workman (Sr, Prior Lake, Minn) singled, then
Karley Wiensch (Jr, Chippewa Falls0 extended the inning when she got on with an error and
Tori Workman cleared the bases with the triple.
Stout got no more hits the rest of the way and stranded a runner in the seventh inning.
The Blue Devils collected six hits to the Blazers four and stranded nine runners.
Taylor Workman was 2-for-4 to lead Stout.
In the nightcap, freshman pitcher Beth Olson (Mineral Point) was roughed up for 16 hits and 12 runs in her inaugural collegiate appearance.
Stout's only run came in the bottom of the second when
Tori Workman doubled, advanced to third on a wild pitch, then scored on Wood's infield groundout.
Stout returns to action Saturday, Feb. 21 when they travel to Rosemount, Minn., to meet up with Bethel University. First pitch is scheduled for 11 p.m. at the Irish Sports Dome.
