University of Dubuque 79, UW-Stout 76 (Box Score)DUBUQUE, Iowa (December 8, 2015) - UW-Stout had four players score in double digits, but it wouldn't be enough as the University of Dubuque rallied in the fourth quarter to take a 79-76 win over the Blue Devils Tuesday.
Stout (3-4) carried a 61-58 lead into the fourth quarter, but were outscored in the final stanza, 21-15. The Blue Devils led at halftime and carried the lead throughout much of the third period as
Kyleigh Hebert scored seven of her team-high 17 points in the stanza.
The Spartans (3-4) captured the lead with three minutes remaining in the third quarter, but Stout tied the score on a pair of free throws by Hebert. The Spartans went ahead, but Stout's
Sarah Schoch dropped in a 3-pointer to go ahead 59-58 with 30 seconds remaining. Schoch stole the ball, then gave Stout a three point lead with a layup heading into the quarter break.
The Blue Devils built the lead up to as much as seven points, 72-65, before the Spartans went on a 10-0 run to take the lead, 75-72.
Bailey Diersen knotted the score with a 3-pointer with 47 seconds remaining. The Spartans made all of their free throw attempts down the stretch and Stout was 1-for-2 in the final seconds from the line as time ran out.
Hebert led Stout with 17 points. Diersen and
Shannan Watkins each tossed in 11 points for Stout and Schoch finished with 10.
The Spartans got a game-high 19 points and 12 rebounds from Braana Steen. Abby Meyer added 14 points and Emily Brinker also recorded a double-double, dropping in 11 points and 10 rebounds. The Spartans held a slight 54-48 edge in rebounds.
Stout returns to action Tuesday, Dec. 15 when they travel to the College of St. Scholastica.
