Jenna Goldsmith (Jr, St. Anthony, Minn) notched her second double-double of the season as UW-Stout defeated Penn State Behrend, 79-61, in their first game of the Music City Classic Tuesday.
Goldsmith and
Sarah Schoch (Jr, Chippewa Falls) combined for 25 first half points as the Blue Devils (5-4) took a 48-31 halftime lead over the Lions. Goldsmith scored 13 first half points and Schoch dropped in 12 points before intermission. Stout built the lead up to as much as 27 points midway through the third period.
Goldsmith finished the evening with a game-high 21 points and pulled down 12 rebounds for her fifth career double-double. Goldsmith was 8-for-12 from the field and 4-of-7 from the line and recorded six blocked shots. Goldsmith even stepped outside and drained her first collegiate 3-point field goal, moving beyond the arc in the second half.
Kyleigh Hebert (Sr, Spencer) finished the night with 15 points, 11 coming in the second half. Hebert also added five assists.
Shannan Watkins (Fr, Hoover, Ala) added nine points.
The Blue Devils recorded 16 steals, scoring 33 points off turnovers. Stout shot 29-of-71 from the floor and 20-of-33 from the free throw line.
The Lions (4-5) got 19 points from Dani Reinwald and 10 points from Heidi Langhurst. Behrend shot 21-of-60 from the floor, 4-of-18 from 3-point range and 15-of-22 from the line.
Stout will conclude play at the Classic when they host Hamilton College, Wednesday, Dec. 30 at 2 p.m. The Blue Devils return home to host St. Mary's University, Saturday, Jan. 2 at 2 p.m.
