Archived VideoMENOMONIE (October 25, 2015) - The ball must have looked three feet wide and coming in slow motion, because Minnesota-Morris' goalie, Torrie Jordan, stopped just about everything UW-Stout threw at her. And the Blue Devils threw a lot Jordan's way. But the Blue Devils got to her in overtime when
Addy Maher (Sr, Racine) pushed a shot past Jordan to give Stout a 1-0 win Sunday at Nelson Field.
The Blue Devils (7-7-3) spent at least 75 percent of the game in the Morris zone, and pelted Jordan with 36 shots, 15 of them on frame. Jordan managed to grab, push or punch the ball away until the very end when the Blue Devils attacked hard as time was counting down in the first overtime period.
Sydney Kasper (Fr, Owatonna, Minn) pushed the ball to Maher, who shot the ball across the length of the net, going from right to left and burying the shot in the far lower corner.
With the Cougars (8-4-0) coming into the game averaging seven goals per contest over the last three games, all of the statistics went in Stout's favor in this contest. The Blue Devils outshot Morris 10-3 in the first period, 20-2 in the second period and 6-0 in the overtime. Jordan recorded 14 saves. Stout's starting goalie,
Kristi Schurhammer (Sr, Plainview, Minn) had two saves, while
Paige Meyer (Sr, Beldenville) had two saves, the only shots she faced. Stout held a 7-0 advantage on corner kicks.
Stout will travel to UW-Superior, Wednesday, Oct. 25 to conclude the regular season. If Stout makes the WIAC tournament field, they will find out next weekend who they play in the tournament starting Tuesday, Nov. 3.
