UW-Eau Claire 3, UW-Stout 1EAU CLAIRE (October 21, 2015) - Trailing 24-12 in the fourth set and facing an almost certain match point, the UW-Stout volleyball team put on a rally that came up just short as the Blue Devils lost, 3-1, at UW-Eau Claire Wednesday.
After the Blugolds jumped out to a huge 20-9 lead in the fourth set, Stout clawed their way back and when
Steph Cannon (Fr, Mora, Minn) put down a kill to make the score 24-13, it gave Stout the side out and put
Emily Bialka (Fr, Cottage Grove, Minn) to the serving line. Bialka served flawlessly for the next 10 points, and was aided by four block assists pairings by
Rachel Tschumperlin (Sr, Fairmont, Minn) and
Kennedy Strain (Fr, Elk River, Minn) to pull to with 24-23.
A ball handling error ended the night with a 25-23 loss, but the Blue Devils showed their mettle by hanging onto the match until the end.
Stout opened the match with a 25-17 win, but the Blugolds would jump out to a 7-1 lead in the second set on their way to a 25-13 win. The Blugolds captured the third set by a 25-19 score.
Cannon led Stout with 12 kills. Tschumperlin finished with eight points and had five block assists. Strain had a solo block and six block assists.
Molly Brion (Sr, Cameron) had 21 digs and a match-high four service aces.
The Blugolds got 11 kills from Keagan Kinsella and 10 each from Katrina Raskie and Hannah Theisen.
Stout will be at the Coe College tournament this weekend and will face Coe College, the University of Dubuque and Luther College.
