UM-Morris 3, UW-Stout 1EAU CLAIRE (October 17, 2015) - A day after winning both matches at the UW-Eau Claire Sandy Schumacher Memorial Volleyball Tournament, the UW-Stout volleyball team came up empty-handed in both games Saturday at the meet. The Blue Devils lost, 3-0, to the College of St. Benedict in the second day opener and fell 3-1 to UM-Morris in the final match of the tournament.
The Blue Devils (14-12) were swept by St. Benedict (26-24, 25-20, 25-22), a team that was receiving votes in the latest AVCA Coaches Poll. The Blue Devils have not been able to get past UM-Morris the last several years, and they will have to wait at least another year. The Cougars took a 20-25, 29-27, 25-16, 26-24 decision.
Ashley Pratt (Lakeville, Minn) led Stout offensively at the net in both games, recording 13 kills against the Blazers and 12 against Morris. The sophomore had a solo block and three block assists against St. Ben's and three block assists against Morris.
Carly Troudt recorded 11 kills and 
Kennedy Strain, 
Steph Cannon and 
Rachel Tschumperlin each recorded eight kills against Morris and Strain and 
Molly Brion each had nine kills against the Blazers. St. Ben's recorded eight service aces against Stout with Lauren Mathews getting three. Laura Schmitt had 13 kills for St. Benedict. The Cougars' Abby Tietz had 23 kills. Morris also recorded eight service aces, with Marissa Ekness getting three.
Pratt, who had 51 kills for an average of 3.19 kills per set, was selected to the all-tournament team. Pratt had four solo blocks and seven block assists in the tournament.
Stout returns to conference play and to Eau Claire when they will meet the Blugolds, Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. Stout will be at the Coe College Invitational, Oct. 23-24.
