UW-Stout 3, Buena Vista 2EAU CLAIRE (October 16, 2015) - UW-Stout captured both of their meets on the first day of the Sandy Schumacher Invitational at UW-Eau Claire, Friday, defeating Concordia-Moorhead, 3-1, and Buena Vista University, 3-2.
Molly Brion recorded 12 digs in the first match against Concordia to send her career dig totals over the 1000-dig mark. Coming into the weekend, Brion need three digs to reach 1000.
Stout (13-11) and Concordia (11-5) split the first two matches, with Stout taking the first match, 25-20, but Concordia took the second by a nearly identical 25-21 score. Stout captured the last two sets, 25-15, 30-28.
Ashley Pratt (So, Lakeville, Minn) led Stout with 11 kills and
Kennedy Strain (Fr, Elk River, Minn) had nine kills. Stout put down six service aces, with
Maddie Phyle (So, Rosemount, Minn) and
Payton Schultz (Fr, Faribault, Minn) each had two. Pratt had three solo blocks.
The Cobbers were led by Vanessa Johnson with 13 kills and Olivia Wangensteen with 11.
The Blue Devils defeated Buena Vista, 25-23,25-23,21-25,22-25,15-12, as Strain put down a collegiate-high 22 kills. Strain had three solo blocks and two assisted blocks. Pratt recorded 15 kills.Â
Jade Schaap notched a match-high 24 kills for Buena Vista. Mardie Bardole finished with 14 kills.
Stout will meet St. Benedict and UM-Morris Saturday, Oct. 17.
