UW-Stout 4, UW-Eau Claire 3EAU CLAIRE (January 31, 2015) -
Craig Lindegard and
Karl Andersen scored third period goals to lift UW-Stout to a 4-3 win over 12th ranked UW-Eau Claire Saturday at Hobbs Ice Arena.
With the game tied at 2-2 heading into the third period, Lindegard scored unassisted at 5:30 of the final stanza to put the Blue Devils up 3-2. Andersen scored two minutes later, with assists by
Tate Rusk and
Shayne McLaughlin, to give Stout their second two-goal lead of the night, and what would prove to be the game-winning goal.
The Blugolds pulled their goalie and pulled to within one goal when Ross Andersen, older brother of Stout's
Karl Andersen, scored less than a minute remaining.
Stout took an early lead in the game when McLaughlin scored five minutes into the game, with assists by Andersen and
Scott Bell. Stout doubled their pleasure with a goal at 7:54 in the second period by
Justin Moody and assists by
Joey Haydock and
Derek Sand.
The Blugolds' Andersen scored shorthanded at 13:57 of the second period, then tied the score with less than a minute remaining in the period by Jake Hopfner.
Spencer Viele recorded the win for the Blue Devils, fending off 48 shots, including 22 in the second period. Tyler Green took the loss for Eau Claire, stopping 19 shots.
Stout will host UW-Stevens Point, Friday, Feb. 6 at 7:30 p.m., then will visit the Pointers, Saturday, Feb. 7 at 7 p.m.
