Blue Devils sweep Aurora, pick up fifth win in six games

MENOMONIE (January 24, 2015) - UW-Stout broke open a close game with a three goal outburst in the third period, highlighted by two goals by Tate Rusk in the period as UW-Stout defeated Aurora University, 5-1, Saturday at the Dunn County Ice Arena.
 
Joey Haydock also scored two goals for Stout, the eventual game winning goal in the second period and his second goal of the afternoon in the third period.
 
Aurora opened the scoring  on a Rihards Marenis goal at 9:25 of the first period. Stout knotted the score on a short handed goal by Jake Useldinger at 10:14 of the first.
 
Spencer Viele picked up the win, recorded 45 saves, including 22 in the second period. Matt Bartels had 30 saves for the Spartans.
 
The win was Stout fifth in six games, and the Blue Devils improved to 7-9-1. The game marked the end of the season for the first-year Spartans, finishing at 1-15-1.
