St. John's University 4, UW-Stout 2ST. CLOUD, Minn. (January 20, 2015) - St. John's University outshot UW-Stout by a nearly two to one margin and ended the Blue Devils' three game winning streak with a 4-2 win at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center Tuesday.
The Johnnies (8-5-4, 4-3-1 MIAC) put 44 shots on goal compared to 24 for the Blue Devils (5-9-1, 2-2-0 WIAC).
St. John's opened the scoring on a goal by Dan Voce at the 5:22 mark of the first period, but the Blue Devils tied the score when
Tyler Cayemberg (So, East Troy) scored on the power play at 11:59 in the second period.
Tate Rusk (So, Brainerd, Minn) and
Craig Lindegard (So, Hallock, Minn) had the assists. St. John's scored the next two goals, one with less than three minutes remaining in the second period and another six minutes into the third.
Stout closed the score to 3-2 two minutes later on a marker by
Shayne McLaughlin (So, Eau Claire), with assists by
Matt Millis (Sr, Black River Falls) and
Jordan Tredinnick (Sr, Onalaska).
The Johnnies doubled up the score at 11:41 on a power play goal by Wally Cossette. Stout went on a 6-4 advantage in the final minute of the game when they pulled their goalie and the Johnnies got whistled for a penalty, putting Stout on the power play. Stout put two shots on net in the final 39 seconds, but could not get the puck past Johnnies goalie Jason Dzurik.
Dzurik finished the game with 22 saves, while Stout's
Spencer Viele (So, Wildwood, Mo) had 40 saves.
Stout will host Aurora University, Friday, Jan. 23 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 24 at 4 p.m.
