UW-Superior 76, UW-Stout 74SUPERIOR (January 17, 2015) - After trailing most of the first half, UW-Stout took a halftime lead, then built up to as much as a 21-point lead, only to see UW-Superior come back and win the contest, 76-74 at Mertz Mortorelli Gym Saturday.
The loss overshadowed a career-day for the Blue Devils'
Brea Boomer (Sr, Grand Portage, Minn), who scored a career-best 24 points, 12 in each half.
The Yellowjackets (11-5, 6-2 WIAC) took as much as an eight point lead midway through the first half. The Blue Devils (4-12, 2-5 WIAC) whittled away at the lead, eventually tying the game at 33-33 with 2:47 left in the half on
Haley Froehlich 's (Sr, Mondovi) jumper.
Stout carried a 38-33 lead into the locker room, then built that to 18 points midway through the second half on the strength of a 19-4 run. With six minutes, 3-seconds left in the game, Stout held a 21-point, 73-52 lead.
But then Stout went stone cold, making no more field goals as the Yellowjackets outscored them 24-1 down the final stretch.
Katelynne Folkers added 12 points for Stout. The Yellowjackets got 15 points from Sally Linzmeier and 13 points from Grace Kennedy.
Stout will return to Johnson Fieldhouse, Wednesday, Jan. 21 to host UW-River Falls at 7 p.m.
