Blue Devils offense returns in wild 8-5 win over Concordia-Wisconsin

MENOMONIE (January 10, 2015) - An offense that was non-existent the night before returned as UW-Stout captured a wild 8-5 win over Concordia University of Wisconsin Saturday at the Dunn County Ice Arena.

After Concordia (6-9-0) opened the scoring at 4:40 of the first period, the Blue Devils (3-8-1) rolled off three goals to go up 3-1 at the first intermission. Danny Ray (Jr, Grand Forks, ND) scored at 6:28, Joey Haydock (So, Junction City) at 14:40 and Justin Moody (So, Grand Forks, ND) at 18:24 to give Stout the lead.

The second period featured eight goals, four by each team.

The Falcons opened with a goal by Devin Stuermer at 2:07 to cut Stout's lead to 3-2.  Stout's Jake Useldinger (Jr, East Grand Forks, Minn) scored at 4:58 and seconds later Tyler Cayemberg (So, East Troy) scored at 5:26 to give Stout a 5-2 lead. Concordia's Braden Crone scored on a penalty shot at 6:18 to cut the lead to 5-3. Moody scored his second goal of the night at 8:02 to push the lead back to two goals, 6-3.

Concordia pulled to within one goal. Anthony Pickering scored at 10:28 and Lawrence Childs scored at 13:18 to make it 6-5.

Carl Bombardier (Sr, Valcourt, Quebec) scored with three minutes left in the period to make it 7-5 and Jordan Tredinnick (Sr, Onalaska) scored midway through the third period for the final goal.

Spencer Viele (So, Wildwood, Mo) weathered the storm and went the distance for the Blue Devils, stopping 27 shots. The Falcons used two goalies, with starter Domingo Torrenueva taking the loss in surrendering five goals. He recorded 11 saves before being pulled in the second period. Dylan Frank made 15 saves and gave up the final three goals.

Stout will host UW-Superior, Friday, Jan. 16 at 7:30 p.m., then will travel to Superior, Saturday, Jan. 17, for a 7 p.m. start.
