Tennis team snags first win with convincing win over Bethany Lutheran

LA CROSSE (September 6, 2014) - UW-Stout won all nine matches in straight sets to pick up their first team win of the season in a convincing 9-0 win over Bethany Lutheran College Saturday at the UW-La Crosse tennis courts.

Coming off a WIAC-opening 9-0 loss to UW-La Crosse earlier in the morning, the Blue Devils strolled through the Viking line-up.

In the singles portion of the match, Bailee Priewe (So, Janesville) did not allow a point at No. 6, winning 6-0, 6-0. Cortney Hallahan (Jr, Lester Prairie, Minn) took a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 2. Emma Pedersen won at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-1. Danielle Lutz (So, Maple Grove, Minn) had a 6-1, 6-4 win oat No. 4 and Ellen Miller (Fr, Racine) won at No. 5, 6-2, 6-2.

Angela Braun (Jr, Brookfield) had a tough match at No. 1, winning the first set 7-5 and then securing the match with a 6-2 second set win.

Braun and Hallahan won 8-4 at No. 1 doubles. Anna Lano (Jr, Chaska, Minn( and Pedersen took No. 2 doubles at 8-3. Jenna Welke (Fr, Chippewa Falls) and Madeline O'Neil (So, White Bear Lake, Minn) won with an 8-0 decision at No. 3 doubles.

Starting the day in conference play wasn't so easy. as UW-La Crosse, the league's runner-up in both the conference tournament and the team tournament, took the Blue Devils in straight sets.

Stout will host UW-Eau Claire, Saturday, Sept. 13 at 9 a.m.
