Cornell College 9, UW-Stout 0DAVENPORT, Iowa (August 31, 2014) -
Angela Braun (Jr, Brookfield) and
Madeline O'Neil (So, White Bear Lake, Minn) captured singles wins and
Anna Lano (Jr, Chaska, Minn) and
Emma Pedersen (So, Eau Claire) took a doubles win as UW-Stout plaed their two final matches in a swing through northeastern Iowa. Stout fell to St. Ambrose University, 6-3, then dropped a 9-0 decision to Cornell College, playing both matches at St. Ambrose.
Braun, playing at No. 1 singles, needed an extra set to defeat Samantha Rochkus. Braun took the first set, 6-4, then fell in a tie breaker in the second set, 7-6 (7-5). Braun controlled the final set, 10-1.
O'Neil, playing at No. 6 singles, won in two sets, but played out to a 7-5, 7-5 win. Pedersen and Lano won a close 8-6 decision at No. 2 doubles.
Kelsey Pedersen and
Cortney Hallahan lost a tight 9-7 decision at No. 1 doubles.
Ellen Miller (Fr, Racine) played a drawn out match at No. 5 singles, before falling to the Bee's Sarah Wurster, 6-2, 2-6, 10-5.
The Blue Devils could not keep up with Cornell, dropping all nine matches. Inthe closest singles matches, Hallahan, playing at No. 2 singles, lost her first set, 7-6, then went down 6-0 in the second set and
Jenna Welke (Fr, Chippewa Falls) fell at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-4.
Stout returns to action when they open WIAC play Saturday, Sept. 6 at UW-La Crosse.
