Blue Devil scholar-athletes honored for academic achievements

MENOMONIE (April 2, 2014) - Twenty-three UW-Stout senior scholar-athletes were honored Wednesday in an awards ceremony that also recognized 79 underclass scholar-athletes at the Memorial Student Center.

Seniors Anna Busch (Red Wing, Minn), Alex Westman (Richfield, Minn), Tim Glineicki (Mosinee), Zach Anderson (Frederic), Kristen Barra (Peoria, Ill), Alexa Bitzer (Eden Prairie, Minn), Abby Cornelius (Golden Valley, Minn/Robbinsdale Armstrong), Molly Denney (Duluth, Minn/Central), Baillye Durkin (Appleton/North), Jessica Goodrich (Munster, Ind), Devon Greiber (Waunakee), Emily Grossen (Monroe), Sam Hastings (Waukesha), Jessop Keene (Ellsworth/Prescott), Andrea Krueger (Menomonie/St. Croix Lutheran), Cody Loertscher (Rib Lake), Kyle Mills (Rosemount, Minn), David Nett (Malone/Fond du Lac), Bobby Nyland (Eau Claire/North), Jessika Smith (Onalaska/Luther), Erin Swanson (Random Lake), Michelle Theisen (Marshfield), and Zach Vierling (Coon Rapids, Minn). were honored and received a specially designed medallion to be worn during graduation ceremonies.

The UW-Stout Scholar Athlete Award is given to student-athletes with a cumulative 3.50 grade point average in the semester preceding their final season of eligibility. Each recipient invited an academic faculty or staff member who had a positive impact on their time at UW-Stout.

"These student-athletes exemplify excellence, both in their educational pursuits and their athletic endeavors," said Chancellor Charles W. Sorensen, who participated in the ceremony, along with Jacalyn Weissenburger, provost; Phillip Lyons, vice-chancellor of Administrative and Student Life Services; and Duey Naatz, athletic directory

The medallion was designed by student-athletes Kate Mikutowski and Zak Snell. The Scholar Athlete Award program is supported by the offices of the Chancellor, Academic and Student Affairs, University Advancement and Marketing and Administrative and Student Life Services.
