Archived VideoMENOMONIE (April 13, 2014) - UW-Stout didn't make it easy on themselves, but the Blue Devils managed to sweep UW-Superior, 5-4, 6-0, on a very cool and damp Sunday afternoon at Alumni Field.
The Blue Devils (20-10, 7-1 WIAC) led 3-0 going into the seventh inning, then got two quick outs in the top of the seventh inning when the bottom fell out quickly.
With two outs, Superior's Taylor Johnson was hit by a pitch and Anna Morgan singled, putting runners on first and second. Nicolle Gross reached on a throwing error and Johnson scored to make the score 3-1 in favor of Stout. Melissa Clark hit a two-run triple to tie the score, then scored on a wild pitch to take a 4-3 lead. The Blue Devils got the final out and the had to go on the offensive.
Liz Seipel led off with a single, then moved to second on a passed ball.
Kaitlin Stark reached on an error, moving Seipel to third.
Lynzi Knudtson's sacrifice bunt - she would have three sacrifice hits in the game - plated Seipel and the score was tied.
Sam Hastings was intentionally walked.
Taylor Workman was safe on a fielder's choice, which moved Stark to third. Stark scored when
Hannah Sweet was safe on an infield error to end the game.
Stout scored a run in the first inning when
Taylor Workman drove in Stark, who had reached with a lead off single.

Tori Workman had a perfect game going through three innings, but Superior (18-11, 1-7 WIAC) got a hit in the top of the fourth. Workman got into trouble in the fifth inning, but worked her way out with two strikeouts to close the inning, stranding two runners. Workman finished the game with seven strikeouts.
In the nightcap, with rain threatening, Stout jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead after the first inning. Sacrifice bunts by Hastings and
Hannah Sweet scored two runs and
Taylor Workman drove in a run.
Stout put a run on the board in the third when Knudtson tripled, then came home on
Taylor Workman's single.
Twice the Yellowjackets loaded the bases and twice
Tori Workman, who pitched both games, got out of trouble. In the fourth, Superior stroked three hits, but couldn't geve anyone home. Workman recorded a strikeout for the second out and a fly ball to get out of the inning. The 'Jackets loaded the bases in the sixth inning. Workman repeated the feat, recording a strikeout and a fly out to end the inning.
Stout got their final two runs when
Liz Seipel beat out a bunt and the throw went into right field, allowing two runs to score.
Tori Workman shut down the Yellowjackets in the seventh inning, closing the game with two strikeouts. Workman finished the game with nine strikeouts, 16 on the day.
In game two,Knudtson was 3-for-3 with two runs scored.
Taylor Workman was 2-for-3 with two RBI. the Yellowjackets' Britnee Blake was 2-for-3.
Stout is scheduled to be off until Wednesday, April 23 when they host UW-River Falls. Stout will need to set a make-up day for the UW-Oshkosh game that was rained out Saturday.
