WEAU VideoMENOMONIE (April 10, 2014) - UW-Stout got a chance to use their entire bench as the Blue Devils swept the University of Northwestern, Thursday in Stout's home opener at Alumni Field. The Blue Devils captured five inning victories of 12-1, 13-2.
In the opener, the Blue Devils scored seven runs in the first inning as
Sam Hastings and
Jessica Behnke each drove in a pair of runs. Hastings stole home for another run.
Liz Seipel drove in a run on a misplayed bunt and
Kaitlin Stark recorded a sacrifice fly.
Stout added four runs in the third inning as Behnke drove in another run and Stark hit a two-run single.
Kim Jablonski plated a run with a ground out.
The Eagles did get a run back in the fourth, scoring on an error. Stout final run came in the bottom of the fourth when Behnke grounded out to get her fourth RBI of the game, a career-best.
Caty Schloer went the distance, striking out six and scattering three hits. Behnke went 2-for-3 with four RBI and two runs scored. Hastings was 1-for-2 with two RBI and Stark was 1-for-1 with three RBI.
In the second game, the Eagles hit Stout starter
Nicole Rogers hard, scoring two runs in the top of the first. Jennifer Ankrom and Erin Kleinjan each drove in a run.
Stout got those runs back, and then some in the first and second innings. Stout had a three-run first inning. Rogers drove in a pair of runs, then came home when
Courtney Smith was caught in a rundown.
Stout tallied five in the second. Behnke drove in her fifth run of the night,
Liz Seipel scored on an error and Rogers hit an RBI double. Gabby Gawrulek stole home on a double steal with Seipel. Rogers drove in her third run of the game and Sara Greisbach smashed an RBI single to right field.
Stout added another five in the bottom of the third to make it the final 13-2. Gawreluk drove in a run and Rogers and Griesbach each pushed two runs across.
As the Blue Devil offense moved the ball around, Rogers settle down to get the win, her first of the season, striking out two and surrendering three hits.
Sara Mueller came on to pitch two innings of one-hit, shutout ball.
Rogers went 3-for-3 with five RBI and three runs scored. Griesbach was 2-for-3 with three RBI.
Stout stroked out 11 hits in each of the games.
Stout will be at UW-Oshkosh, Saturday, April 12 and return home to face UW-Superior, Sunday, April 13.
