CLERMONT, Fla (March 20, 2014) - After being held hitless by Anderson University in a 4-1 loss, UW-Stout bounced back to rap out 12 hits in a 12-5 second game win over Elmhurst College Thursday at the National Training Center College Games.
To down Elmhurst (0-2), the Blue Devils had to overcome a three-run Blue Jay first inning. The Stout offense came to life in the second inning, taking the 4-3 lead. Kaitin Stark (So, Hastings, Minn) and
Lynzi Knudtson (Jr, Melrose) each drove in a run.
Nicole Rogers (So, Brooklyn Center, Minn)Â and Knudtson scored on wild pitches.
Stout (8-6) added five more runs in the third inning. Stark belted out a two run double to highlight the inning. Knudtson added an RBI, as did
Hannah Sweet (Sr, Elk River, Minn). Stout added a solo run in the fourth and two in the sixth.
Heather Bol (Fr, Woodville) had a sacrifice fly and
Kari Kolle (So, Eau Claire) drove in a run.
Stark was 2-for-4 with three RBI. Knudtson was 2-for-4 with two RBI,
Tori Workman (So, Prior Lake, Minn) was 2-for-4. Rogers scored three runs Stout finished with 12 hits.
Tori Workman came on in long relief to pick up the win, scattering seven hits and allowing two runs, none earned.
Anderson (3-2) scored all four of their runs in the sixth inning to hand UW-Stout a 4-1 loss Thursday.
The Ravens, who advanced to the NCAA Divsion III finals last season, held Stout hitless in the game, even though they trailed 1-0 heading into the sixth.
Stout's Rogers reached on an infield error to open the fifth inning, then moved on
Courtney Smith 's (So, Dassel, Minn) groundout and stole third base. Rogers came home on a sacrifice fly by
Jessica Behnke (Sr, Bruce) to give Stout the lead.
Stout's
Tori Workman allowed seven hits on the day, but five of them came in the deciding fifth inning as Anderson sent 10 batters to the plate. Brynn Gooding had a two run single to conclude the scoring in the inning.
Stout had six runners reach base, but stranded five. Workman recorded fouf strikeouts and gave up three walks.
The Blue Devils will conclude their spring trip Friday, March 21 when they face Buffalo State and Plattsburgh State.
